Newspeak Perform Final Gig at Bar 8

After more than two years together (18 months with the current line-up) Newspeak have decided to call it quits. Early on in March we had heard that Rob had finally got his dream job - inNewspeak March 13th 2000 at Bar 8, Sheffield Scotland. For a number of reasons we decided that Rob's lumberjack dreams would be the end for Newspeak and that we could not carry on without him (we really love him you know...). So when we got offered a gig on Manday the 13th March we decided that it would be our very last and we would try and make it our best gig ever. The Saturday before we practiced at The Collective and found that we were still very much enjoying playing. While there the band recorded material that would later appear on the bonus disc of Apocalypse. The final gig was performed at Bar 8 in front of a buoyant audience and was probably one of the best gigs we have ever done. Suprisingly a lot of old faces showed up to lend their support to Newspeak - the Newspeak mailing list had finally worked!! Newspeak were were first on out of three bands and played for around 45 minutes. In the end I thought they were going to kick us off! Julian took his 4 track along and despite the awkward situation, dodgy mikes and a total lack of co-operation got a half decent recording of the night. The set list was: Half As Much As I, Cultivar, Film Clips and Politics, Three Days in Liechtenstein, Hearts That Weigh Like Gods, Cave In, Private Universe (Crowded House), Writing On The Wall, Satellite, La Vida Loca (Ricky Martin), Take What You Can. Four or five of these songs will be appearing on the bonus second disc of the Apocalypse: Newspeak CD. The full length CD's of the gig and the Collective Session are available through us by arrangement but are for the completist only due to poor sound quality on certain songs. Thanks to all of you who came along - now buy the CD and relive the memory!

Rob Andrew Leaves for Scotland

After 2 and a half years playing gigs with Rob it has been very sad to see him o to Scotland. Still he's a lumberjack and he's OK! Rob orginally started playing music with Rob and Julian in The Many Face of Eddie in the summer of 1997. Since then he has been an integral member of both the Many Faces and Newspeak when it was begun in March 1998. It was down to Rob that we found Dan as they were both friends. So what is Rob actually doing in Scotland? Well he says he is working for the Scottish National Trust doing "various projects and assorted tasks", so basically your guess is as good as mine. However we will always remember Rob as being our "lumberjack drummer".

Apocalypse: Newspeak is Released

New double CD Apocalypse: Newspeak is released this week through the band. The CD features 6 new songs recorded throughout the year plus a bonus CD with live, rare and unreleased songs and a CD-Extra component which I think you will really enjoy! In the coming weeks we hope to negotiate with some local shops to get them into the streets. Visit the special web site www.apocalypsenewspeak.co.uk to find out the latest details on what is included and how to order your copy.

Nick Wright Leaves for the Big Smoke

Recently finishing his finals Nick decided it was time to get away from Sheffield and try his luck in London. Nick hopes to give music his best shot for the next few years and hopes that London will prove more favourable than Sheffield did. We all wish Nick the best and hope he finds his fame and fortune. Listen to some of Nick's most recent solo material here - I'm sure you'll agree with me that it stands up to anything Newspeak have done.
